Determining Custom Field Value on SO - Vb.NET

Hello,

I'm very new to webservices and custom records via webservices and was wondering if anyone could help point me in the right direction as I'm pretty confused

I have a Vb.NET program which I wrote and it works with NetSuite web services to search for a Sales Order on NetSuite, and update a custom field value on the SO if found.  The field value is a custom list containing a small list of items.

However, now I have a second field value which is also a custom list and I'm needing to check a couple conditions before I can update the second field.
