Breadcrumb color

I'm trying to use the <NLCRUMBTRAIL> tag and I see that the trail uses the color set for Inactive Tab Color.  That seems really odd to me and doesn't work with our site at least because the background is the same color as the text. 

Does anyone know of a workaround for this or why the crumbs use a tab color instead of the link color?
