Matrix Item Alternative?

We have what could work very well as a matrix item but the cost of the module for that one feature is far too high.

Does anyone else have a solution so that we could have a few items with different options (i.e. 2 day turn around rather than 5 day?) the items are the same and I don;t want to create duplicate items just for a change in the feature as the customers will be confused?
