MAtrix Items and Vendor Codes

What happens with Matrix codes and Vendor Codes? We seem to have only one code per Matrix.

We create a matrix item XX001 with a list of variants -A,-B,-C.  They are 3 colours of the same product.  This replace us XX001-A, XX001-B, XX001-C on our site via the matrix item.

However, each of these have a different supplier code (Logical because they are different physical entities):
Our Code               Vendor Code
XX001-A                NT003
XX001-B                NT012
XX001-C                NT013

But the matrix for our item XX001 only has one place for the Vendor Code?  How do we assign a Vendor Code per item on the Matrix?
