WebStore Left Side roll-over category menu navigation template

I have looked at a few NetSuite webstores that have been customized with Left Side roll-over category/menu navigation templates.  I am referring to the type of navigation menu that are shown here...

I am wondering if the various solutions are dynamic or do the people using these have to create the category within the menu code every time they create a new category in NetSuite.  What is the best way to make these in NetSuite?  Also, would anyone like to post a solution that can be pasted into the NS theme area for "Site Navigation Portlet Template"?
