Kit items - can Matrix items be members

Trying to get something to work to have some customizable apparel on our site.

Was hoping I could setup a matrix item for some Heat Transfer Designs.  And setup Matrix item for the Blank shirts.  Then create a Kit item that would display the Shirt size and color options and the Transfer options.

But it does not appear that I can add Matrix Parent items to be a member of a Kit.  Anybody using Kits that can help me.

Note, if I cannot add Matrix Parent items, how about adding items that have Transaction Options?  Can the Kit item display the options of the members?
