Scriptable Cart - Shipping Costs

Has anyone worked with altering the shippingcosts field using scriptable cart and can comment on its effect/flow with the estimators in both the shopping cart and checkout steps? I'm looking to apply some logic to offer free shipping in select use cases using scriptable cart.

The script seems fairly straightforward just updating the 'shippingcost' field and setting the 'shipvia' to the method that's free. However, not sure if that plays nice with the shipping option selection, etc.
