.ss accessing custom record

OK, yes, I know, Onepage checkout is in BETA but I'm having to use it lets get that out the way before I get comments telling me to wait until it's out of BETA..

I am trying to access a custom record from a custom .ss and get "Permission Violation" error messages.

I have set a list of permissions on the record, some of which are belt and braces but still it doesn't work.
I've also tried setting it to not requiring permission to see if that will work, it doesn't.

I have set :-
Administrator - Full
Customer Center - View
