Can you create a contact using an external form?

I have a website that is trying to grow it's email list by having a simple "sign up for news" form, that only requires email address. I want someone to be able to fill in this form and then have it create a contact record in NS. Can you do this? I figured out how to have it create leads externally, but that's not what I want because my email lists are Contacts, not leads.
