Find applied date when different to payment date

I have payments that were entered in but remained unapplied for sometime. Eventually some months later I applied these payments to outstanding invoices but the applied date on the invoice still shows the date that the payment was made. How do I find out the dates that the payments were actually applied to the invoices?
