Credit Sales Tax?

Is there a simpler way to credit sales tax for a closed period? 

Invoice is from April so we have already paid the sales tax to the state.  Generally we would credit the original Invoice and then create a new one.  My problem with this, it screws up the Average Days to Pay for the customer.  Has anyone found a simpler way?
