Sales Orders for Contacts

I have about 250 contact records that I want to ship a Christmas Gift to.  We are integrated with Fedex so my first inclination was to simply create a sales order and then fulfill, however, it doesn't look like I can put a contact on a sales order.  Anyone run into this hurdle?  I suppose I could create customer records for each contact but that seems like quite a bit of work.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
