CSV Import - how to connect companies and contacts

I want to import Companies and Contacts to NetSuite. 

How are companies and contacts linked.  In the system we are creating the imports from uses a field called co_id that I can link to the company record.


I can import customers but I cannot figure out how to then link the contacts (in another import) to the company.

I am hoping it is not done automatically by the company name since our current system allows the contacts to have different company names (long story but that is the way it is) and quite a number of them do.

Any help most appreciated.
