Using Export/Import to Give Contacts Webstore Access

I want to assign our 3000 Contacts in NS access to our new webstore and assign them a temporary password.  Can I do this by exporting the Contacts,  assigning them access permission and passwords in excel and then importing the list into NS?

I've been told that this can be done with Customer records but that I have to do this individually with Contacts.

I'm just starting to look into importing so any help would be greatly appreciated.
