Profitability Per Invoice

I really need a little help with this one... Our accountant is telling me that I need to make all my non-inventory items (over 2000 of them) into inventory items so that he can see profitability per invoice.  I know that there has to be a report or some kind of search I can run for him to see this without changing all of those, I'm just not sure exactly how to do it. (I only know very very basic accounting so my suggestion of the profitability report apparantly was not the correct answer for him ) He's saying as
