Custom button not displayed in View mode?

I've created a custom button on my Opportunity form. The button displays and functions perfectly as long as the Opportunity record is in Edit mode but as soon as I save the record (or try to View any existing Opportunity) the custom button is not even displayed.

I've commented-out all code in the function just to verify that it's not a coding error preventing the button from being displayed in View mode.

Any ideas? TIA!
