Changing the diplay format of a date

Hi,

I have a field of type 'date' and would like to change the way the field is displayed on forms and in reports.  Normally, the date is shown as 19/03/07 but i would like to change this to just show Mar 2007.

The field is using a script to calculate it so it could be built into the script.

I want to keep it in a date format rather than converting it to a text string as i want to be able to sort the field into date order.

Does anyone know if it's possible and if so, how to do it?
