Catch a Suitelet Browser Reload

I have suitelet that has been running for about 2 years now for our sales reps.  I setup a link on a custom tab for them the pull down and select the deployed suitelet.
I am finding they are refreshing their browser (for whatever reason) before the page loads which reloads the suitelet.  The problem is my suitelet is 'counting' so each time they refresh it increments a stored counter.

Is there anyway I can put code in the Suitelet to catch a reload?  Just like in Netsuite if you leave a record that had been edited but not saved it always asks "Are you sure you want to leave this page".
