New Custom Field Lag?

It seems that recently if I add a custom field and use it as an nlobjSearchColumn in a script, some (but not all) users will temporarily get an SSS_INVALID_SRCH_COL error. 

Does anyone know if this because the change needs to propagate to multiple application servers, and if so how long I should wait before pushing the script changes into production?
