Suitelets, Opportunities, and Activities

I need to attach a new task (under activities tab) to an existing record from a suitelet. I've been looking into the nlapiCreateRecord() route, but I think this is folly.

I have posted to this suitelet already and have captured the recId of the opportunity and all the info I need for the new task, I just am trying to figure out if there is a call that can accept the recId of the Opportunity and the other parameters.

Is this possible?
