want to load createdfrom record but don't know type

For example:

var shId = nlapiGetRecordId();  var recType = nlapiGetRecordType();  var shRec = nlapiLoadRecord(recType, shId)  //load item fulfillment xatn record  var soId = shRec.getFieldValue('createdfrom');  var soRec = nlapiLoadRecord('salesorder', soId);  //load sales order xatn record


but what if the type is 'transferorder' instead of 'salesorder' ?  How can I tell what the record type of the createdfrom transaction is?
