User event script to update custom field on contact record

Hi everyone, I am trying to figure out the best way to update a custom field on a contact record with the date the (parent) customer record was last updated. I don't know if a workflow would work or if a user event script would be a better route.

I am having some issues trying to remember the logic to update cross record type, can someone please help me?
