Permission exceptions
In the help there is the following (setting permissions for custom records):
3.
Check the box in the Restrict Access column to limit people with this role to records they or their subordinates have entered.
This is good to a point, with other software I have used we could then define some "exception" rules.
For Example;
Role A see/edit records they or their subordinates have entered AND they have view permission for records entered by other users with the same role.
This is useful for situations when you may have managers who need view/edit access to their own records
