Restrict Child Record Creation

I have a parent record with a child record attached and I want to stop users from creating a child record from the parent record and replace this with a workflow/script that creates the child record.  It would be great just for the created child records to appear as a list.

When I go into the parent record I always get a 'New ' button (as shown below), is there a way I can stop this?
