How Do I Include the "Introduction" in an EMail Alert?

I must be missing something basic. Although I enter text into the "Introduction" field on the Customize Message tab, the text does NOT appear in the email that I receive.

What am I doing wrong?

This is for a single-record alert.
I don't have anything in the "Single-Record Results" block, so the email lists the fields from my saved search, which is what I want.
