Display Only Items in Search Results (Not Categories Too)?

Pretty self-explainatory: Is there a way that when the user searches the site that it can display only items (rather than categories and information items)? When searching on our site, it returns categories that have different layouts than the default one I'm using to display categories in search results and just doesn't look good with the default category layout.
