SQL Help - CASE WHEN Blank Date Field

Hello all,

I've been trying to CASE WHEN on an empty Date field but it doesn't seem to work. If i try CASE WHEN {date.field} = null Then 'word' Else 0 END or CASE WHEN {date.field} = '' Then 'Word' Else 0 END it just displays the ELSE result.

Is there a reason why it can't see the date field is empty and therefore pull through the Word value? Or maybe I'm looking at this in the wrong manner.

I've tried both Date and Text formulas.
