Attaching a Royalty to an Item

We need to attach a Royalty Rate to an Item so we can track Sales of the Item to create Reports to send to a Licensing Company.  Our current system (circa 1980's) attached the information to a "Design #" that when attached to an Item, associated the Design with the Item to create the information needed to run a Report which included, Total Sales of Item and Customer Information.  Now we need to create that same tracking ability in NetSuite somehow.
