Units on Assembly / Lot Numbered Items

Hello NS community-
I'm looking for Units (type, stock, purchase, sale) on Assembly and Lot numbered inventory items.  My fear is they are not available on these type of items?
Would someone please confirm this for me?  We are trying to implement what should be a basic oursourced manufacturing work flow in our system and need units of measure with assemblies and lot numbers to comply with accounting requirements.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
