Inventory On Hand Amount

When adding new items the On Hand Amount can be set.  Is there a way to specify the date.  So for example, we took physical inventory on 6/30/08 but are just adding the items now but want the inventory dated 6/30/08 - do we have to do an inventory adjustment or is there a way to specify the date when doing the import?
