What is Impact of Not Setting COGS on Assembly Items?

I have a Lot-numbered Assembly Item which is a WIP. It will NOT be sold nor purchased, but will be used as a member to a FG Lot-numbered Assembly Item.

This WIP Assembly Item has RM as its member items.

If I do NOT set the COGS account for this WIP Assembly Item, will the cost of it be recorded when it is built, and will that cost be passed on to the FG Assembly Item when the FG Item is built?
