Assembly Item members adding additional info

I would like to add additional information for each member of an assembly item.  Ideally I would like to add 2 additional text fields which can be filled in when the "item" is added to the member list like qty is filled in.  So, in the end when adding items to an assembly item the following needs to be entered: the item, the qty, txt field 1, txt field2.

How can this be done?  And can I use web services to create the assembly item after I have made this customization?
