'drip' marketing - assigning leads to campaigns

I want to be able to dynamically/automatically apply campaigns to leads.
In other CRM systems I have used, you could apply an individual to a campaign, using workflow rules or scripting.
Out of the box in NS, you only seem to be able to assign a campaign to a whole group of customer records - then they all get the same emails at the same time.
I would like to be able to define a campaign that has a number of steps(emails) separated by a fixed amount of time - say a day. I then want to fire that campaign off against each new lead that is created, as it is created (its liek having groups of one and applyinmg campaigns).
