Printing Checks is an anhancement?? Really?

I am in a conundrum.  I have spent the last few hours working to customize a check layout.  In 07, the options are really cool, should be a snap....right? 10 minutes or so at the most...busy day.  blah blah blah
So there I went.. but, it didn't work.
In the interest of me just messing it up, I deleted the layout, and started again.:D
Same results.
Changed the setup-printing preference to voucher.
Tried again.
No Go. same thing.
Went back and used the standard check, to see if it worked.
It did.
Deleted all customization attempts, started from scratch.
