Mass Creation of Projects using Project templates

I need to create a large number of projects and tasks. I have the project templates with required tasks already created. In testing I can create projects via a custom upload, but cannot attach the required project template using this method. Is there a way round this. I can only see manually creating the projects via templates or then editing projects created via the upload and adding the tasks manually. Any thoughts? Thanks. Martin
