Samples as Marketing Expense

Hello fellow forum peoples-
Question of the day: How are you handling product samples? We need this to land in the P&L as a marketing expense, and for it to also go through an outbound PO process to the manufacturer in order for the items to be built. Trying to accomplish this without creating separate sample items and muddying up our item master.
