Comparative Income Statement > Be able to set Comparison Amount Column to automatically follow the c

The CFO wants to see the Comparative Income Statement to compare the exact date range he enters in the filter section. I know I can ask him to go into the customization and enter a custom date there, but is there any way to set the report up to know to compare last years data to the same date range he enters in the filter at the bottom of the report?
