Matrix Report Assistance

I am hoping this isn't a "that's on the enhancement list"

I have a sales report, and the date that the matrix builds columns from is the date in which the invoice was created, this is great in some cases. The issue I have is I also want to see invoices based on a custom date field. For instance, we have events that we rent spaces for, e.g. you have a wedding on April 5, 2021, but you requested to have the event on September 1, 2020. Yes, I do want to see when the sales rep's contracted, but I also want to see when the event is occuring.
