Global Search returns inconsistent results

Greetings -

When I enter a mobile phone number in the global search window I do not always get a match even though the customer record contains the correct value. It seems to work for some of the time but not all. I have not been able to determine why the different behavior.

The number is displayed as a string of numbers and I enter them as a string of numbers.

We are a one world account and I am currently researching this for non US subsidiaries.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
