Adjust Quantities of Items under - No Location

Suite Answers ID 39509 states you can correct items with "No Location" by creating a regular inventory adjustment; however, the inventory adjustment must have a date BEFORE the Item Distribution Date. In my case, the item distribution date was several years ago and I am trying to clean up old problems. NetSuite has given up on fixing the problem unless I open period back to 2005 and indicated I should "live with it" which I can but would prefer a solution.  Does anyone have a solution unknown to NetSuite? If not, has anyone gotten Answer ID 39509 to work? If I open these periods some weekend, I want to make sure it is going to fix the problem.
