Customers Who Have Not Purchased an Item (Using a Filter)

Hi, I am trying to create a search or report listing customers that have not purchased a particular item. This would be simple enough except I want to provide the users the ability to enter the item in question via a filter or a pop-up rather than expecting them to modify the criteria. Any suggestions?
