Auto Generating Numbers - OOPS

We had a new employee manually overwrite the transaction number for a return authorization. His new number added two more digits to the length (ridiculous!). The auto generating system in Netsuite picked up the next number after the new goofy number. I can not figure out a way to get Netsuite to start auto generating using our original numbering scheme. We manually changed all the numbers back to the old scheme but Netsuite continues numbering using the goofy scheme. We even manually reset the 'initial number' for auto generating return authorizations found under Company > Auto-Generated Numbers to our original
