Using excel from front end for reporting in OBIEE

Hi All,
is it possible to use Microsoft Excel to generate report in analytics with out importing Excel file in RPD. Basically we don't want to use any connection pool in RPD related to this excel.
We like to use this Excel to create graphs, tables, pivots in the dashboard.
Thanks

Hi,
You can as long as you upgraded to OBIEE 12c. In 12c you can use Visual Analyzer / Data Visualization which allows you to load an Excel file in the front-end and use it for analysis.

+1 to Gianni. It's called data source mash-ups via external Subject Areas using the Data Set Service

Thank you for the Reply,
I would have mentioned my OBIEE version, we are still on 11.1.1.7, Based on your reply I assume there is no possibility to achieve our requirement with out using RPD.

Yeah, in 11g there is no other way than going through the RPD, sorry ...
Without mentioning that in 12c the VA/DV option is an extra license probably.
