BI Data Model to have an Option to Export Data as CSV or xls format

Use Case and Business Need

Dear Oracle Team,

Can we have the BI Data Model to have an Option to Export Data as CSV or xls format.

BI Data Model allow us to view the data for a maximum of 200 records. With this option, we can view the data without having to create the BI report with templates.

Likewise , can we have the option to export this data (say 200 records) from BI Data model to Excel sheet. This will help the users to quickly fetch the data into excel sheet for further processing. Otherwise, user needs to either copy the data or create a template which relatively consumes more time.

Hi you can't do this from the admin tool, you can do this from the BI Answers front end create a report with no filters and use the export function there

Currently, there is no metadata reporting functionality in BI Publisher or OBIEE 11g for BI Publisher objects. an enhancement request has been logged for this functionality.  This is unpublished Bug 18034146 - CAN WE ADD ADDITIONAL DATA MODEL REPORTING TO OBI EE 11G?  This ER is rejected

I just want to have this as a new functionality so that we export data to excel without need to create the Report using layout templates.

It helps in two ways

1. Time saving. You write the query in Data Model , then view the data and if it is fine then ,  export to excel (if this option is available)

2. No need to install BI Plugin in your PC. Any technical consultant who have the BI reporting access can fetch the data into excel/pdf...

I feel Oracle should consider this request as it will be a good to have feature in SaaS environment

This feature is already supported. Just enable the "Enable CSV Output"  property from Data Model Editor. Upload / create any dummy template (XPT/RTF) for Report. During run time, If you selected the CSV output type, It will ignore the template and generate the CSV directly from SQL query. It is like direct SQL to CSV.
