Description

The newly added, and Oracle configured & support BI Publisher ‘Content Server’ Data Source type can only pull text files from the Fusion Application Content Server.

The ‘HTTP Connection’ Data Source type can be used to pull XML files from the Fusion Application Content Server. The ‘HTTP Connection’ is not supported by Oracle and is set to be deprecated in a future release.

Add the capability to the 'Content Server' Data Source to work with XML files or do not deprecate the 'HTTP Connection' Data Source.

Use Case and Business Need

The ability to pull an XML file from the Content Server for a BIP Report has multiple uses.

The first use case is the ability to create reports on the contents of transformed data file, not simply a report of what is in the HCM Extract XML file. When (integration) data files and reports are both created from the HCM Extract XML file, the report is not based on the contents of the output data file. The logic for the report transformation must match the logic in the data transformation while still providing a meaningful report. If we are able to use the resulting data file for the report transformation, the report is based on the contents of the data file, not the HCM Extract XML file. See the attached picture for a graphic representation of the data and reporting transformations.

Additional uses cases would be multi-stage transformation for large and complex transformation. The results of separate HCM Extract transformations could be combined in a single report. Existing XSL transformation designed to work with industry standard XML formation (e.g., HR-XML) could be used when the HCM Extract XML is transformed to the industry standard XML format.
