Retaining OTBI Parameters in OTBI Output

Description (Required):

Parameters in OTBI are lost once we run the OTBI Report.

We enter the values in parameters in OTBI Report and click on Submit. After submit, we see the output but the parameters are not visible.

Therefore we need the parameters on top of the report output so that we can update the parameters again and run it, instead of traversing to the report again and again to run it.

Also these parameters should retain the values when we click on submit.

Use Case and Business Need (Required):

It is very difficult to run the OTBI Reports having multiple parameters. We click on Submit and the output does not have parameters on top of it, due to which if we have to run the report again, we need to go to the report and add all the parameters again, which is quite time taking task.

If we have those parameters on top of the output along with submit button, we will just need to update the parameters that we want to change and click on submit, which will be quite easier and will save a lot of time.

We use a single report that us used by various departments - they can select parameters specific to their needs. It would be extremely useful to be able to select to have parameters show in the header for reference at a later date.

Much needed one, its giving bad experience to users, we need to go for Dashboard just to show parameters as headers.

one workaround I find, is to create a dashboard with a prompt and analysis that responds to prompt. The prompt and parameters will remain on screen while the analysis runs. In upper right there is gear icon and you can export entire dashboard/dashboard page which will include parameter values in the prompts when exporting. Note though you'll also want to look at the print and export options settings in your dashboards setup/settings so that all rows are exported.

And one more option if only using analysis.

When creating the prompt in the analysis, use a presentation variable. See below as an example, creating a prompt for project number, with a variable named ProjectNum.

You can also add filter in the analysis related to the variable

Then in the analysis, you can go into something like the title section and add that variable in title area as example as Project Number Parameter: @{ProjectNum}
