How does Oracle BIP Report determine who is the report Owner?

An odd problem for our BIP Reports, the BIP Report's owner always jump to someone who never touched that report.

For example, there's a report named "OTBI Item Detail Reports_UK", it created by our BSA "Naomi" yesterday however, the report owner displaying as "Phoebe Chen" which is my account even thought I have not login to system yesterday.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone help to explain the logic of how does Oracle BIP report determine who is the owner.

  • Hi @Phoebe Chen ,

The owner of the report should be the user who saved it to the catalog.

Did Naomi create the report on a different enviroment and then move it to the target one (where the owner is different) using the archive/unarchive feature? If so, based on the settings applied during the process, the permissions may have been inherited from the parent folder (including the owner).

    Hi @Federico Venturin

Much appreciated for your explanation. Yes Naomi does created the report in Test environment firstly and move it to Prod with archive/unarchive.

I'm not sure if you do know can the BIP settings be updated to make the report owner displaying properly? (The owner should be the one who migrate the report to the folder)

  • Hi @Phoebe Chen ,

To preserve the original owner, you have to select the Create option from the ACL menu when you unarchive the report in the target environment.

To set the ownership of an existing report in the target environment, you have select it, click on Permissions, add a user, tick the Owner radio button and click on OK.

    Understood that. Thank you~

I just have one more question, is there a way to known that the last_modified_by of a BIP report if it gets updated.

  • Hi @Phoebe Chen ,

Since your last question is quite different from the original one, I suggest to start a new topic for it. It would be easier for people with the same issue to join the conversation, and for you to get an answer!
