Hi @Earth place ,
From fusion SaaS perspective, both options are used to take a backup/move reports/data models between environment. From the Oracle documentation, I could gather, that if you have a standalone BIP, then you should use Upload/Download option.
Downloading and Uploading Catalog Objects (oracle.com)
From a use case perspective, I have been using this option to customize standard notifications. Whenever customizing standard notifications, we have to use Upload/Download option only. And the customize option is available only when using xmlpserver not analytics.
Managing Objects in the Oracle BI Presentation Catalog
As Fusion uses, OBIEE, so by default analytics link is used and archive/unarchive is preferred way.
Below thread can give you more insights:
"xmlpserver" vs "analytics" - what's the difference? — oracle-mosc
There is no standard way of version controlling. So, you can choose any option.
Thanks.
