How to create an extension for a custom subject area

We have created a new subject area called HCM - Workforce Core Limited via a Semantic Model Extension. We want to create a separate extension on the new subject area in order to add additional attributes to the new subject area.

When attempting to select HCM Workforce Core Limited as my target subject area in my new extension, I am not getting the result to return. Why is this?

Note: I have published the extension that created the HCM Workforce Core Limited subject area, but I have not merged it with the Main Branch yet.
