Does importing a Semantic Model publish the Semantic Model into the target environment?

Does importing a Semantic Model publish the Semantic Model into the target environment or do I need to republish the SME after importing?

I imported and deployed the semantic bundle, but the custom subject area isn't available.

@Kevin Riedy - In Fusion Data Intelligence (FDI), once a semantic bundle is deployed, it is automatically published. There is no need to manually republish the model afterward.
